OBJECT
Redesign the entire typographic system for a coffee table book, that already exists.

The Asian Style by Gilles de Bure (1998) presents a restrained and thoughtful perspective on Asian design, rooted in clarity, simplicity, and a balance between emotion and reason. The book approaches design not as spectacle, but as a quiet reflection of everyday life.

Through close observation of ordinary objects—such as bowls, baskets, and paper—the book reveals refinement embedded in the mundane. Materials, colors, and patterns are treated with subtlety and restraint, shaping a lifestyle defined by lightness, harmony, and intention.

This Editorial & Cover Design project translates the book’s design philosophy into a visual system that reflects its understated elegance and universal sensibility. Rather than emphasizing ornament, the design focuses on balance, rhythm, and negative space—echoing the calm and contemplative nature of Asian design as presented in the text.
